What is a Red Seal trade?

<< Back to Certification FAQs

A Red Seal trade is a trade that is included in the Interprovincial Standards (Red Seal) Program. This program encourages standardization of provincial and territorial apprenticeship training and certification programs. A Red Seal allows qualified tradespersons to practice their trade in any province or territory in Canada where the trade is regulated without having to write further examinations.

If you have a Red Seal on your certificate of qualification or completion of apprenticeship, your qualifications may be recognized in Alberta. To be sure, check Alberta Advanced Education, Apprenticeship and Industry Training. You can also find out how to contact an Apprenticeship and Industry Training office by calling the Alberta Career Information Hotline between 8:15 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
